The famous Spanish painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso's artwork, which has not been shown to the public for 80 years, will be put up for auction in Paris. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
CNN reported on this. The painting titled “Bust of a Woman with a Hat” was created in Paris in 1943 during the Nazi occupation by German fascists.
This artwork is considered a portrait of Picasso's muse and lover at the time, Dora Maar. The last discovered portrait of Dora Maar was purchased by an unknown collector in 1944 and has been kept in their family ever since.
Art historian Agnes Sevestre-Barbe considers this piece to be of great historical and artistic significance. According to her, the artwork has not been publicly displayed for over 80 years and has never been exhibited or auctioned.
The painting measures 81x60 centimeters and bears Picasso's signature in the upper left corner. This rare piece will be put up for sale at an auction in Paris on October 24.
The starting price is set at 8 million euros, with experts expecting the price to rise further. Dora Maar's real name was Henriette Theodora Markovitch, and she was a French surrealist painter and photographer.
She had a romantic relationship with Picasso and was the subject of several of his portraits, including “Portrait of Dora Maar,” “The Weeping Woman,” and “Dora Maar with Cat.”
According to Maar herself, although all these portraits belong to Picasso, none of them resemble her true face. This auction is regarded as a significant historical event for art historians and collectors.
This also serves to increase interest in Picasso's unknown works.
