China is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
President Xi Jinping announced at the United Nations assembly that the country plans to reduce emissions by 7-10 percent by 2035. This is the first time China has committed to a specific figure for emission reduction.
Experts consider this decision a positive step, but emphasize that the target is insufficient to achieve international goals. To keep global temperatures below 1.5 degrees, a much greater reduction in emissions is necessary.
According to the plan, China will continue to expand wind and solar power plants, increase forest areas, and primarily introduce electric vehicles among new cars. The country has already achieved results ahead of schedule in some indicators.
At the same time, China still heavily relies on coal energy. Experts stress that stricter measures are needed to significantly reduce emissions.
This promise indicates that China will take environmental issues seriously in the future.
