Colombian President Gustavo Petro strongly condemned the US air strikes against boaters suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean Sea. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He called these actions oppression and emphasized that if it is confirmed that Colombians were killed in the attacks, US officials should be held accountable. US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, stated that these operations are necessary to stop the flow of illegal substances.
According to official data, at least seventeen people have died since the attacks began. At the same time, legal experts consider these actions to be in violation of international law.
Petro stressed that it is not necessary to kill individuals suspected of drug trafficking. He noted that boats can be stopped and people arrested, which is not killing.
United Nations experts also criticized these attacks as illegal executions. Additionally, the Colombian president criticized US President Trump’s policy and called the strengthening of US military forces in the region dangerous.
He warned that this situation could negatively affect peace and stability in the region. Petro called on the international community to pay attention to the situation and demanded that legal measures be taken.
