Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy requested US President Donald Trump to provide Tomahawk cruise missiles, which would allow striking key targets in Moscow, during a closed-door meeting held in New York City. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The British publication The Telegraph reported this. Zelenskiy emphasized to the White House leader that this high-tech weapon could serve as additional leverage to force Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table for a peace agreement.
According to sources, this request was discussed during a closed meeting between the two heads of state within the framework of the UN General Assembly and was positively received by the Americans. In an interview after the meeting, Zelenskiy stated that President Trump responded well to his request.
According to him, the Tomahawk missiles are necessary weapons, but this does not mean they will be used immediately. Having these weapons would be a strong pressure to compel Putin to sit at the negotiating table.
Tomahawk missiles can cover distances from 1,250 to 2,500 kilometers and can accurately strike deep enemy territories. This weapon, which holds strategic importance in NATO's arsenal, has previously been consistently refused by the US to be supplied to Ukraine.
Whether Zelenskiy's request will be successful or not remains unclear at this time, the article notes.
