Two 17-year-old teenagers were arrested in the Netherlands for spying on behalf of Russian interests. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the De Telegraaf publication on September 26, the teenagers were found to have a special device called a Wi-Fi sniffer, designed to monitor internet networks, steal passwords, and obtain other information, while passing near Europol, the European justice system, and the Canadian embassy in The Hague on August 16.
During the investigation, it was revealed that they communicated with an anonymous curator via the Telegram messenger. The charges were brought based on information provided by the Netherlands Intelligence and Security Service.
This case is noted as the first instance in the country's history of minors being recruited by a foreign state. On September 25, the suspects were brought before the court.
According to the court's decision, one of them was remanded in custody for 14 days, while the other was placed under house arrest with the obligation to wear an electronic bracelet. The publication reports that one of the suspects is still a school student, engaged in hockey and interested in gaming.
For his parents, this event was completely unexpected. It was known that the boy did not attend parties and only worked at a supermarket.
During the arrest, at least eight law enforcement officers entered the home with a search warrant and carried out the detention operation. This incident caused great surprise not only among the parents but also within the wider community.
