An important agreement in the field of atomic energy was signed in Tehran, the capital of Iran. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Tehran and Moscow have concluded a contract to build new nuclear power plant units. Interestingly, this document was adopted one day before the expiration of the period during which UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran could be reinstated.
This was reported by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. The agreement was made between Iran's Iran Hormoz company and the joint venture "Rusatom Energy Projects," part of Russia's state corporation "Rosatom."
According to the international AFP agency, the contract is valued at approximately 25 billion dollars. The project plans to construct four modern third-generation power units, each with a capacity of 1255 megawatts.
This will bring the total capacity of the plant to 5020 megawatts. The atomic units will be built in the Sirik port area in southern Iran, in Hormozgan province, on a site covering 500 hectares.
According to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, the location for the facility has already been selected, and engineering and environmental studies have been fully completed. So far, Russia's "Rosatom" corporation has not issued an official comment, but this agreement is expected to take the energy cooperation between Iran and Russia to a new level.
Additionally, this may lead to extensive discussions on the international stage. This large-scale project will not only serve to meet Iran's internal energy needs but may also impact the geopolitical balance in the region.
Such cooperation in the field of atomic energy will help strengthen the region's energy security.
