A court decision has been announced in the Russian Federation regarding a criminal case. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
An Uzbek citizen who escaped from a penal colony in Lipetsk region and assaulted a police officer during his arrest was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a strict regime colony. According to information, this individual was one of six prisoners who escaped from Penal Colony No. 2 in October 2024.
Most of the escapees were citizens of Central Asian countries, with four identified as Uzbek citizens. The escape incident attracted significant attention in the Russian mass media.
It was noted that the prisoners acted in coordination and there were shortcomings in the security measures of the penal enforcement system. The wanted prisoners were apprehended in Tambov region at the end of October 2024.
Police officers identified and attempted to stop them according to their descriptions. At that moment, the Uzbek citizen resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer.
As a result, the law enforcement officer’s right arm was broken, and medical examination classified the injury as a moderate bodily harm. According to the court decision, the Tambov regional prosecutor’s office found the defendant guilty of committing a crime and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
The Uzbek citizen was held accountable under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code. This article refers to the use of violence dangerous to life or health against a government official while performing official duties.
Consequently, the case related to the prison escape in Russia led to serious consequences. The escaped Uzbek was held accountable before the law not only as a fugitive but also as a person who committed violence against a police officer.
This incident highlights the need to review security issues within the penal enforcement system once again.
