It has been reported that the water reserves in the reservoirs supplying water to Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city, may last only up to 75 days if there is no rainfall. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration, the reservoirs are currently only 27.8 percent full. This means there is a water reserve of 241.3 million cubic meters out of 868 million cubic meters.
This figure is the lowest level in the last ten years. For example, at the same time in 2023, the reservoir fill rate was 16 percent.
Since April, water reserves have been steadily decreasing. Of the ten reservoirs supplying the city, only one has more than a quarter full, while four others are very low, filled with less than two percent water.
The government emphasizes that approximately 3.18 million cubic meters of water are consumed daily in the city with a population of 16 million and calls on the public to conserve water. Additionally, Istanbul municipality meteorologists predict heavy rainfall in the city next week.
It should also be noted that due to the severe drought in 2023, the city administration temporarily stopped water supply to parks and private gardens. Effective management and conservation of water resources are crucial for stabilizing the city's water supply.
It is necessary for the population to use water wisely and pay attention to preserving natural resources.
