Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that the idea of the United States delivering Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of striking targets up to 2,500 kilometers away to Ukraine would be a serious blow to Russia-US relations. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to him, such a step could completely eliminate the positive processes between the two countries. Putin stated that the development of the situation does not depend solely on Russia or its allies and indicated the possibility of further escalation in the future.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky requested the delivery of Tomahawk missiles during a closed meeting with US President Donald Trump within the framework of the UN General Assembly. Zelensky specifically demanded these missiles to increase pressure on Moscow and revive negotiations.
Later, Trump confirmed that he promised to work on this issue. At the end of September, US Vice President James Pence said the administration was discussing the possibility of providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine but emphasized that the final decision must be made personally by President Trump.
In Washington, this issue is being seriously discussed from the perspectives of political consequences and risks. Having Tomahawk missiles in Ukraine’s hands would increase the capability to deliver precise strikes on rear-area targets from long distances.
Experts believe this could significantly affect the geography and dynamics of the war. Moscow considers such deliveries a red line and may further escalate relations.
In conclusion, if the decision to supply Tomahawk missiles is made in relations between Kyiv and Washington, Russia-US relations could enter a new phase of crisis. At the same time, many delicate factors that could either complicate or ease the situation remain unresolved.
