Starting from October 20, 2025, significant changes will be implemented in the procedure for importing vehicles into neighboring Kazakhstan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the local publication “Tengrinews,” under the new rules, citizens will no longer be able to import certain types of used machinery and buses into the country. These restrictions are being enforced based on the decision adopted by the Eurasian Economic Commission on May 23, 2025.
The decision introduces amendments to 74 regulations governing the import of motor vehicles into Kazakhstan. The main goals of these changes are to ensure environmental safety, update technical standards, and develop the transport system.
According to Muhammad Andakov, Deputy Chairman of the Industrial Committee, from now on only legal entities and individual entrepreneurs with a special certificate will have the right to import vehicles. Physical persons will not be able to import special machinery and buses, except for passenger cars.
As Andakov emphasized, the new restrictions will not affect the trade of passenger cars, and citizens will be able to continue importing personal vehicles from abroad. However, requirements for buses and special machinery have been significantly tightened.
This decision has sparked various debates, especially among Kazakhstani citizens who purchase second-hand cars at low prices from Russia and Armenia. In recent years, many have imported vehicles from these countries, but some of these vehicles were unable to be officially registered in Kazakhstan.
Experts believe that the new regulations are aimed at improving road safety and protecting the environment from pollution. They note that these restrictions may initially cause short-term dissatisfaction but will ultimately ensure that only safe and environmentally friendly vehicles operate on the country’s roads in the long term.
At the same time, experts warn that the new requirements may lead to price increases in the local automobile market. Officials, however, regard this as a stage of innovative development for the automotive system.
In conclusion, the decision adopted by the Kazakhstani government will not only fundamentally change the import procedure but also create new opportunities for reviewing environmental and technical standards across the entire region. This will contribute to improving the quality and safety levels in the transport sector.
