The verdict for 72-year-old writer Juraj Sintula, accused of plotting to assassinate Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, is expected to be announced on October 21. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Pravda publication, the final testimonies in the case were heard on Wednesday at the specialized criminal court in Banska Bystrica.
At the court, the Prime Minister's representative, lawyer David Lindtner, spoke and emphasized that the attack was politically motivated. Robert Fico himself stated that he is not participating in the court proceedings and is not following the process.
Sintula's lawyer opposed the prosecution's views in his defense speech. He said that it is incorrect to classify this incident as a terrorist act, as the accused did not intend to kill the victim but only aimed to injure him.
Additionally, the lawyer stressed that his client had no intention of organizing a coup and asked the court to deliver a fair verdict considering the defendant's advanced age. For reference, the assassination attempt occurred on May 15, 2024.
The court's decision is expected to be announced in the coming days. This case is being closely followed in Slovak political life.
