US President Donald Trump once again openly expressed his views on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On October 14, during a conversation with journalists at the White House, he emphasized his frustration with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to Trump, this war is unfolding before his eyes as a pointless and disastrous process.
Trump said that he previously had good relations with Putin and indicated that these ties might still be maintained to some extent. However, he is expecting a clear decision from the Moscow leader to stop the war.
According to the president, Putin could have ended the war quickly, within a week, but he did not do so. This is negatively affecting Russia's internal and external standing.
Trump highlighted that due to the war, long queues for gasoline have appeared in Russia and an economic crisis is beginning. He also recalled that Russia has lost nearly 1.5 million soldiers during the war and noted that these losses have seriously damaged Putin's reputation as a state leader.
The politician also emphasized that the prolonged conflict has weakened Putin's position on the international stage. He stated that Putin could have ended the war quickly but chose not to.
Trump believes this decision is causing significant harm to Russia's reputation. He also spoke about the upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington on October 17.
According to Trump, Zelenskyy will raise the issue of weapons during the negotiations and will especially request "Tomahawk" missiles. The president even jokingly noted that these missiles might be needed in Argentina as well.
Trump's statement sparked wide discussions in the US and international media. Some analysts evaluated his words as an effort to increase pressure on Russia, while others pointed out Trump's relations with Putin, suggesting that through this he is trying to strengthen his domestic political standing.
As a result, the US president's recent remarks have triggered new debates regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. His statement that "Putin could have ended this war quickly" caused significant resonance in political circles.
