Debates have intensified in Ukraine around the popular cartoon “Girl and Monkey.” This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information, since this cartoon is associated with Russia, a proposal has been made to impose sanctions against it. Ukrainian media outlets reported this.
The proposal was made by Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, chairman of the Ukrainian parliament's committee on press freedom. In his opinion, the Ukrainian-language version of the cartoon also contains imperial and military ideas characteristic of Russia.
The deputy stated that cartoons intended for children are being used by Russia as a means of influence. Many parents do not sufficiently monitor the content shown to their children on the internet.
For this reason, there is a need to cleanse Russian content and create national brands. Experts emphasize that there are propaganda elements in the “Girl and Monkey” cartoon.
For example, the girl often escapes punishment and in some scenes wears headgear typical of the Soviet era. If sanctions are approved, the police may add this cartoon to the list of banned content.
According to The Times, this character is perceived as a symbol of Russia’s “soft power” and could be used to shape certain values in children’s minds. No decision has been made yet, but discussions on the topic continue.
While some people consider the cartoon harmless, others see it as a tool of ideological influence.
