John Bolton accused of mishandling classified information
Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton denied allegations related to the mishandling of classified information. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The court hearing took place on October 17 in Greenbelt, Maryland. Bolton pleaded not guilty in court and refused to speak with journalists.

He was later released on the condition that he does not leave the city. The next court session is scheduled for November 21.

According to the investigation, in July 2021, Bolton informed the FBI that individuals connected to the Iranian government had accessed his email, but he concealed that he had sent classified information through this email. Federal investigators found that he transmitted state secrets via his personal email and messengers.

Among this information were documents concerning the United States' future military actions, meetings with foreign heads of state, and the country's foreign policy. Bolton also sent these documents to his wife and daughter.

On August 22, 2025, the FBI searched Bolton's home and workplace. During the search, documents related to weapons of mass destruction, the US mission to the UN, and strategic communications were found.

On October 16, a grand jury formally charged Bolton with illegal possession and transmission of classified information to third parties. He faces eight and ten counts.

Each charge carries a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years. John Bolton served as National Security Advisor under the Donald Trump administration and was known for his firm stance on foreign policy.

His case sparked significant political debates in Washington. Experts believe this trial will strengthen discipline related to classified information in the US and increase oversight of officials' activities.
