Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy made an important statement to journalists after a meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to him, Kyiv and Washington did not discuss the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine because the US does not want to escalate tensions. Zelenskiy said, “We agreed not to talk about this topic.
America does not want escalation.” At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine intends to receive Tomahawk missiles.
“I am neither an optimist nor a pessimist, I am a realist,” he replied to journalists' questions. The Ukrainian leader also said that he did not discuss with Trump the issue of striking energy facilities in Russia.
The main topics of the meeting were security guarantees and ensuring sustainable peace for Ukraine. According to Zelenskiy, “Even if we manage to stop the shooting, we must be prepared for a new aggression from Putin.
Therefore, clear security guarantees from the US will be necessary.” The president called territorial issues the most difficult point in the war.
“The Russians want to occupy the entire territory. However, before peace negotiations, it is necessary to reach some agreements.
The first step is to stop the shooting,” he said. After the meeting, Zelenskiy also spoke by phone with European leaders.
The conversation included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, as well as the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, and Poland, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Observers believe that Zelenskiy’s statement is a diplomatic signal aimed at maintaining balance in strategic relations between Ukraine and the US.
Washington continues to support Kyiv but does not want to take the war to a new stage.
