
A major fire broke out on October 18 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The fire started around 14:30 in the airport's cargo storage section. Due to the incident, all flights were temporarily suspended and passengers were evacuated to safe areas.
To extinguish the fire, 36 special teams were deployed, including the airport's internal fire service and the Bangladesh Air Force. Airport director Masudul Hasan Masud confirmed the situation and announced that emergency measures are being taken.
According to him, all airplanes were directed to safe zones. Kavser Mahmud, a representative of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, stated that the fire completely engulfed the cargo area.
Civil aviation, fire services, naval and air forces, as well as border guard units arrived at the scene. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations organization, efforts to fully extinguish the fire are currently ongoing.
Flights were temporarily canceled and some planes were redirected to Shah Amanat Airport in Chattogram and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet. Significant material damage occurred in the cargo storage warehouse.
Nasir Uddin, director of the Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association, said that the area where international courier service cargo was stored was completely burned down. It was also reported that a fire recently occurred in one of the chemical warehouses.
So far, no official information has been released about casualties or serious injuries. Investigations into the causes and origin of the fire have begun.
The government and airport administration have called on the public to remain calm and stated that the fire is under control. Nevertheless, flight operations at Dhaka airport continue with temporary restrictions.
