The number of people renouncing US citizenship is increasing. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Among Americans living permanently abroad, cases of renouncing citizenship for political reasons are on the rise. According to The Washington Post, approximately five to six thousand Americans officially apply to renounce their citizenship each year.
Previously, the main reasons for this decision were tax and organizational issues, but recently political dissent has become the primary factor. Immigration lawyers note that this trend has intensified over the past two years.
They point out that although the process of renouncing citizenship is expensive and complicated, the number of people making this decision is increasing. According to a survey by the international consulting company Greenback, 51 percent of Americans are dissatisfied with the political environment in the US in 2024-2025 and are considering renouncing their citizenship.
Experts associate this situation with internal political tensions, partisan conflicts, social instability, and distrust in foreign policy. This process indicates that the political situation in the country is significantly influencing citizens' decisions.
