Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has firmly rejected US President Donald Trump's proposal to resume negotiations with Iran. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by the Reuters news agency. In his statement, Khamenei emphasized that Trump's claims about the US having destroyed Iran's nuclear capability are not true.
According to him, if negotiations are conducted under coercion and threats, it is not a genuine agreement but a means of pressure. Despite Trump calling himself a "deal maker," the Iranian leader said that if an agreement is reached under threat and pressure, it is merely intimidation and coercion.
He also laughed at Trump's statement that Iran's nuclear industry has been destroyed, saying it is just a wish. As Khamenei stressed, Iran's scientific and technological potential remains intact.
For reference, Tehran and Washington have held five rounds of indirect talks regarding the nuclear program. However, in June, due to strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities by Israel and the US, the negotiations were abruptly halted and ended with a 12-day air battle.
Last week, when Trump spoke at the Israeli parliament, he said that after peace with Hamas in Gaza, the US might reach a peace agreement with Iran. However, Western countries have been accusing Iran of secretly producing nuclear weapons.
Tehran denies these claims, stating that uranium enrichment is solely for civilian energy purposes. At the end of September, the UN reimposed sanctions against Iran.
According to calculations by the UK, Germany, and France, Tehran violated the terms of the uranium enrichment agreement made 10 years ago. Therefore, Khamenei's recent statement has almost eliminated the possibility of easing relations between Iran and the US in the near future.
Iranian officials consider this position a necessary measure to protect the country's independence and national security.
