A woman named Dominique Valdes, living in France, was fined by the court because of her tabby cat named Remy. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the court decision, she will pay 1,200 euros for the damage caused to her neighbor's property. Additionally, if the cat enters a foreign territory again, she will be obliged to pay a fine of 30 euros each time.
Local media reported that during the investigation, it was stated that the cat dirtied the neighbor's new plastered wall, blanket, and garden. However, Valdes denied these accusations and emphasized in court that there was no clear evidence.
She noted that there is another tabby cat in the neighborhood and that the photos presented showed different cats. Following the incident, the neighbors filed a new claim demanding an additional compensation of two thousand euros.
This forced Valdes to keep her cat only indoors. She expressed dissatisfaction with this situation, saying that the cat feels uncomfortable in the home environment.
The incident sparked public discontent. The Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) criticized the court decision, emphasizing that it is natural for cats to explore their surroundings.
According to the organization's head, Guillaume Sanchez, such a decision may complicate the process of adopting animals in the future. The local population also has a negative attitude towards this issue.
"Cats move freely and often bring benefits. Now, punishing cats is unfair," says Natalie, who owns four cats.
