The MaineHealth medical institution in the state of Maine, USA, sent incorrect notifications to 531 patients. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The message informed about the patients' deaths and included instructions for their relatives on handling property and inheritance matters. The Guardian publication drew attention to this incident.
Soon, MaineHealth representatives issued an official statement regarding this mistake, stating that the problem arose due to a technical malfunction in the IT system. They apologized to the patients and emphasized that the error has been corrected.
They also noted that records in the medical database confirming that all patients are alive have been preserved. This incident surprised many people.
An anonymous patient interviewed by CBS13 said they were very upset upon receiving this message. When they called the hospital, the staff expressed relief that the patient was alive.
The patient expressed concern that this situation could affect their medical records. Thus, hundreds of patients who were briefly listed as "officially deceased" experienced severe shock due to this event.
MaineHealth announced that it will take necessary measures to prevent such an error from happening again.
