The United States' policy towards Ukraine is causing serious concern in Europe. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Washington's new stance on Ukraine has sparked dissatisfaction and anxiety among European diplomats. US military representative Daniel Driscoll openly stated at a closed meeting in Kyiv that the US has no intention of yielding on President Donald Trump's "peace plan."
According to the Financial Times, the meeting was marked by intense disputes, and European diplomats expressed anger over this pressure. The gathering took place at the residence of the US interim representative to Ukraine, Julie Davis.
According to Driscoll, the US approaches Ukraine with respect but does not hide the difficult situation on the front lines. He noted that although achieving peace is an urgent matter, the content of Trump's plan has not yet been discussed.
Julie Davis also expressed strong opinions. She emphasized that aid is being provided to Ukraine, but resources are limited.
At the same time, she pointed out that Russia's strong industrial capacity makes it difficult to prolong the war. According to Davis, ultimately Kyiv will be forced to sign an agreement.
Driscoll and Davis reminded that the deadline set by Trump – November 27 – is when Ukraine must make a decision regarding the peace plan. This demand was sharply criticized by European diplomats.
According to the Financial Times, some ambassadors speculate that the US is exerting pressure on Ukraine and trying to exploit Zelensky's weakened position. Several European Union countries consider Trump's plan a strategic gain for Russia and a dangerous one for Ukraine.
US representatives, however, cite Russia's heavy losses as an example and argue that calling the situation a victory is incorrect. European diplomats suggested increasing pressure on Russia instead of forcing Kyiv into negotiations.
Nevertheless, US representatives continue to regard Trump's plan as the best possible option for Ukraine. This tense meeting in Kyiv was also at the center of discussions at the G20 summit in Johannesburg.
European leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, tried to find ways to soften the US position. Negotiations are ongoing, but new tensions between Europe and the US are clearly emerging.
This process is causing new pressures and tensions in bilateral relations.
