The gold pocket watch belonging to Isidor Straus, a passenger who perished on the "Titanic," was sold at auction for a record price. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The watch was purchased at the Henry Aldridge & Son auction for £1.78 million (approximately $2.3 million USD). This was reported by The Guardian.
The watch was made by Jules Jürgensen from 18-carat gold and was gifted to Straus on the occasion of his 43rd birthday in 1888. Later, after the Titanic disaster, the watch was recovered from the seabed and preserved.
Straus's watch set a new record at auction. Last year, a gold watch belonging to the rescue ship's captain was sold for £1.56 million.
Thus, Straus's pocket watch surpassed the previous record with its historical significance and rarity.
