The peace plan developed by the United States regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine was reviewed and underwent significant changes during negotiations in Geneva. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the "Financial Times" publication, the plan, initially consisting of 28 points, was reduced to 19 points. These changes were due to Kyiv and some European countries rejecting certain points.
Ukraine put forward its conditions during the negotiations. Among them were demands to reduce the army and to give up the Donbass region.
While European countries supported Ukraine's position, they also emphasized their right to independently make decisions regarding sanctions imposed on Russia and frozen assets. Olexandr Bevz, a representative of the Ukrainian presidential office, stated that Kyiv's objections to the peace plan were not taken into account.
US Secretary of State Mark Rubio positively assessed the progress of the negotiations and stated that work on the plan is ongoing. He emphasized that the parties agreed that the agreement must be based on the principle of respecting Ukraine's sovereignty.
The final document is planned to be sent to Moscow after being approved by US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Donald Trump noted in his statement that there could be serious changes in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
European countries, including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, plan to hold new meetings next week. According to diplomats, they are trying to develop alternative proposals.
At the same time, European representatives noted that if no agreement is reached, the US might stop aid to Ukraine. Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow has not received official information about the negotiations in Geneva.
