There are significant differences between the peace plan for Ukraine developed by the Donald Trump administration and the positions of Kyiv officials. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On November 26, the American TV channel CNN reported, citing a high-ranking source familiar with the negotiation process. Although agreements have been reached on most of the 28 points of the plan, the parties have serious disagreements on three important issues.
One of the main disagreements concerns the establishment of a demilitarized zone envisaged to transfer some territories in Donbass under Russian control. The US has asked Ukrainian officials to accept this zone.
According to Ukrainian sources, some progress has been observed in this regard, but no final agreement has been reached. Another important issue is the proposal to limit the number of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to 600,000 personnel.
The US is expressing its position on this matter, but Kyiv is not yet ready to support this idea. Thirdly, Ukraine does not want to give up NATO membership.
According to sources, such a decision would have allowed Russia to permanently block the alliance from accepting new members. This issue is considered a "red line" for Ukraine, while Moscow regards this demand as a key condition.
CNN emphasizes that these three issues constitute the decisive aspects of the peace negotiations. According to Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president's office, President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to meet with Donald Trump in the near future to reach a compromise on ending the war.
