The arrest of the niece of White House Press Secretary Karoline Livitt's mother has highlighted the complex aspects of the country's deportation policy. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
It has been revealed that Bruna Caroline Ferreira, the former wife of Livitt's brother Michael Livitt and a Brazilian citizen, remained in the US despite her tourist visa expiring. For this reason, she was detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Ferreira has been living illegally in the country since 1999. Additionally, it has been noted that she may be involved in physical violence.
She is currently being held at an ICE detention center in Louisiana and is being prepared for deportation. Ferreira's lawyer, Todd Pomerlo, denied these allegations, emphasizing that his client has not committed a crime.
According to him, Ferreira was brought to the US as a child by her parents and was a participant in the DACA program. However, when the Trump administration took measures against the program, she was unable to renew her status.
Ferreira has now submitted a legal application to obtain US citizenship. On November 12, she was stopped and detained in New Hampshire while picking up her son from school.
Her ex-husband Michael Livitt expressed concern about their son's mental state in this situation. A DHS representative reminded that the DACA program does not provide full protection from deportation.
This case shows that the intensified immigration policy of the Trump administration is affecting even the relatives of high-ranking officials.
