The Peruvian court found former president Martin Vizcarra guilty of bribery and sentenced him to 14 years in prison. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Additionally, according to the court ruling, he was banned from holding public office for 9 years. Court documents state that Martin Vizcarra, during his tenure as governor of the Moquegua province from 2011 to 2014, accepted bribes amounting to 676 thousand dollars in exchange for approving construction contracts.
This information was reported by the Reuters news agency. The trial began in October 2024.
Martin Vizcarra denied the charges against him, calling them political persecution. He assumed the presidency of Peru in 2018 but was removed from office by a congressional decision two years later amid suspicions of corruption.
