It has been reported that Kazakhstan suffered at least 1.5 billion dollars in damages as a result of the attack on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information was revealed by energy sector expert Olzhas Baydildinov in an interview with the RITV television channel. According to him, this damage is equivalent to the annual budget of one of Kazakhstan's major cities – Astana or Almaty.
According to Baydildinov, oil is mainly delivered to European markets through the CPC. The consortium transports more than six million tons of oil per month, 90 percent of which corresponds to oil exported from Kazakhstan.
As the expert emphasized, this is not Kazakhstan's oil, but export oil passing through the country's territory. According to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, on November 29, the CPC infrastructure was attacked using sea drones.
As a result, the equipment of the oil complex was seriously damaged. The ministry called such attacks on civilian facilities unacceptable and stressed that such incidents pose a threat to global energy security.
In response to the situation, the government has launched a plan to promptly redirect oil exports to alternative routes.
