US President Donald Trump reportedly gave Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro a one-week deadline to leave the country during a phone call on November 21. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Reuters, Trump told Maduro that he could relocate with his family to any country of his choice. This deadline ended on Friday, November 28.
After the deadline expired, Trump officially announced on social media that Venezuelan airspace was closed to the United States. According to Reuters sources, Maduro agreed to leave the country but set several conditions.
He demanded full legal guarantees for himself and his family from the US, the lifting of sanctions, and the cessation of the case at the International Criminal Court. However, the Trump administration did not agree to these conditions and rejected them.
Relations between the US and Venezuela have deteriorated sharply in recent years. The US government does not recognize Maduro as the legitimate president and accuses his government of corruption, violating legislation, and laxity in combating drug trafficking.
Since September, the US has deployed military ships and aircraft in the Caribbean Sea and has struck several vessels suspected of drug trafficking. It has been reported that more than 80 people have died as a result of these actions.
The latest measures, including closing Venezuelan airspace, have further increased Washington's pressure on Caracas. Analysts believe this step could deepen the political crisis in Venezuela.
