Snapchat messenger has been blocked in Russia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) announced this. According to the report, this messenger was found to be used for organizing and carrying out actions related to terrorism, as well as for committing crimes.
At the same time, it was noted that there is a risk of information dissemination on the platform and the commission of crimes against other countries. Snapchat messenger was developed in 2011 by Stanford University students Evan Spiegel, Frank Braun, and Bobby Murphy.
The platform became popular for allowing users to send photos, messages, and videos that automatically disappear after a short time. Additionally, the ability to apply various filters and masks contributed to its popularity.
Snapchat was the first to introduce the “stories” feature. In 2017, Snapchat’s parent company Snap Inc.
went public on the New York Stock Exchange, with the company valued at 25 billion dollars. According to data, by 2025, the number of monthly users of this service is expected to reach 943 million.
It is worth noting that earlier, WhatsApp messenger was also reported to possibly be blocked in Russia due to non-compliance with Russian legislation. These processes are being carried out as part of measures to strengthen control over information and communication systems in Russia.
