It has been reported that a peace agreement to stop the war in Ukraine is very close to being signed. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Kit Kellogg, former US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, the agreement depends on resolving two main issues – the future of the Donbass region and the problems surrounding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). Speaking at a forum organized by the Ronald Reagan Foundation in California, Kellogg stated, “If these two issues are resolved, the remaining matters can be easily settled.
We have almost reached the goal,” he emphasized. According to him, the negotiation process has entered the “final stage of the marathon,” which is considered the most complex and responsible period.
According to Kellogg, the total number of casualties and wounded on both the Russian and Ukrainian sides during the war has exceeded 2 million. Reuters agency reports that Russia currently controls 19.2 percent of Ukraine's territory.
Regarding the ZNPP issue, the US has put forward several proposals: restoring the plant's operation, placing it under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and distributing the electricity produced between Russia and Ukraine. US President's special envoy Steven Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner play important roles in the negotiations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that on December 6 he held a meaningful phone conversation with Kushner. European countries are also closely monitoring these negotiations.
On December 8, French President Emmanuel Macron will hold a meeting in London with Ukrainian President Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The main purpose of this meeting is to assess the results of the US-led negotiations.
