Washington and Kyiv are discussing new initiatives aimed at resolving the Ukraine-Russia conflict through political means. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to The Washington Post, a new format of negotiations has begun between the US and Ukraine. The main goal of these initiatives is to consider the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union (EU) by 2027.
This could lead to significant geopolitical changes in the region. One of the key issues in the negotiations is the creation of security zones along the front line.
It is proposed to establish a demilitarized zone covering Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia, involving the withdrawal of troops and restrictions on the movement of heavy military equipment. This area could be under permanent supervision, similar to the demilitarized zone between South and North Korea.
Additionally, the US has expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with security guarantees close to NATO's Article 5. Kyiv demands that these guarantees not only be signed but also officially approved by the US Congress.
At the same time, European countries are also exploring possibilities to offer their own security guarantees. The new national security strategy of the Trump administration does not clearly indicate the likelihood of US military intervention if Russia launches an attack.
However, Washington promises to continue providing Ukraine with intelligence and assistance in other areas. Another pressing issue is the possibility of transferring control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to the US.
Although this proposal is still at the discussion stage, it is considered important from the perspective of global energy security. In conclusion, the new initiatives between Washington and Kyiv could significantly affect not only the future of the Ukraine-Russia conflict but also the geopolitical balance in the region.
