The US House of Representatives has approved the defense budget for 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The new budget amounts to $901 billion, marking a record high compared to previous years. The document was approved by 312 congressmen, while 112 voted against it.
The bill is currently under review by the Senate and is expected to be approved next week. This budget exceeds the amount requested by US President Donald Trump by $8 billion.
The document was developed based on a compromise agreement between proposals previously submitted by the Senate and the House of Representatives. Leaders of both parties, despite disagreements on some issues, have called for support of the budget.
The new budget includes an annual $400 million military aid allocation to Ukraine and measures to strengthen European security. It also plans to increase the salaries of US military personnel by 4 percent and improve living conditions at military bases.
However, a provision related to infertility treatment insurance was not included in the document, as House Speaker Mike Johnson opposed it. Additionally, funding for diversity and inclusion training programs, criticized by Donald Trump, has been reduced.
This budget sets the Pentagon's programs, but Congress will need to pass a separate law by September 2026 to allocate the funds directly.
