Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that the United States has proposed the establishment of a demilitarized special zone in the east of the country to halt military actions. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He spoke about this during a meeting with journalists in Kyiv on December 11. According to Zelenskiy, based on the US proposal, the Armed Forces of Ukraine should withdraw from Donetsk region, and the Russian army should not enter this area.
However, discussions on this matter are still ongoing. In particular, negotiations are being held regarding the future status of Donetsk region and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
The president emphasized that according to the US plan, the Russian army may not be required to withdraw troops from Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, but it will be necessary for them to withdraw their forces from Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions. Zelenskiy stressed that any territorial issues or compromises should be considered with the participation of the entire nation.
He noted that such matters should be resolved through international elections or referendums. Additionally, Zelenskiy announced that he has discussed security guarantees for Ukraine with the US administration.
He wrote on his former Twitter account that he had constructive and detailed communication with the US. The phone conversation involved US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The president stated that clearer understandings regarding security guarantees are expected to emerge in the near future.
