Valeriy Zaluzhny, former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current ambassador to the United Kingdom, made a concerning statement about the situation in Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the general, there is a risk of a civil war starting within the country in the post-war period. He linked this risk to economic hardship, unemployment, and social problems.
In Zaluzhny’s view, Ukraine may face a severe economic crisis after the war. There is a possibility that hundreds of thousands of people will be left unemployed and homeless.
This situation could lead to social unrest in society. He said such a scenario would pose a serious threat to internal stability.
Additionally, the general noted that nearly a million military personnel will return home after the war. If their reintegration into society fails, it could lead to an increase in crime.
Zaluzhny compared this situation to the post-Afghanistan war period in the 1980s. According to him, individuals with combat experience may be prone to taking the wrong path.
Zaluzhny emphasized that achieving rapid peace in Ukraine is important, but this peace must be based on conditions that allow the country to be preserved and developed. He defined defeat as the disintegration and complete occupation of the country.
According to the general, the peace terms currently being proposed are unacceptable for Kyiv. Long-term peace remains the only way for Ukraine to be restored as a state.
