Green Card Lottery May Be Canceled in the USA

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on her social media page that she has instructed the US Citizenship and Immigration Services to halt the DV1 visa program under the Green Card lottery. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This visa annually allows individuals who win the lottery to immigrate to the United States. Through the DV1 program, up to 50,000 foreign nationals enter the US each year.
Participation in the program requires having a secondary education or two years of professional experience. According to Kristi Noem, Claudio Manuele Nevesh Valente, a Portuguese national suspected in the killing of two students at Brown University, came to the US in 2017 through this visa.
During the incident, Uzbek citizen Muhammadaziz Umurzoqov was killed. Additionally, mention was made of Sayfulla Soipov, an Uzbek who came to the US in 2017 via this visa and killed eight people by running them over with a vehicle in New York City.
According to CBS News, former US President Donald Trump has been critical of this program for many years. Trump believes that such visas pose a threat to national security.
However, supporters of the DV1 program argue that it benefits the US economy and positively impacts the country's image. Therefore, various opinions and debates continue around the program.
