The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that a planned terrorist act was prevented at a penal colony in the Rostov region. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
RIA Novosti agency reported on this. According to the FSB, the suspects in this case are three citizens of Uzbekistan.
They are serving prison sentences for serious crimes and, according to Russian authorities, are supporters of the banned ISIS terrorist organization. The security service's statement noted that the suspects planned to take prison staff hostage and set fire to buildings in the colony.
They developed a detailed action plan for this purpose but did not manage to carry it out. During a search, knives and other items bearing symbols related to terrorism were found near the suspects.
Russian security services link these items to the planned attack. So far, the Uzbek side has not issued an official response regarding this incident.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects' guilt is expected to be determined during the court proceedings.
