The consequences of the ecological disaster in the Black Sea are worsening. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
As a result of fuel oil spilling into the sea in the Kerch Strait, more than 600 dolphins have washed ashore dead within a year. According to experts from a scientific center engaged in rescuing and studying dolphins, dolphin mortality has significantly increased since the accident occurred.
In their opinion, this situation may persist for several years. Scientists emphasize that the death of dolphins may be caused by the accumulation of toxins in their bodies, an increase in various diseases, and a decline in birth rates.
However, it is difficult to say for certain that all dolphins washed ashore died specifically due to the fuel oil. At the same time, the increase in deaths during the autumn and winter months is causing serious concern among ecologists.
It should be recalled that in December 2024, during a storm in the Kerch Strait, two tankers capsized, spilling thousands of tons of fuel into the sea. This incident caused significant damage to the Black Sea ecosystem.
According to official data, some of the polluted beaches may only recover by 2026. In conclusion, human mistakes are proving costly for nature.
The fate of the dolphins in the Black Sea is expected to remain a focus of ecological attention for a long time.
