The US government announced that it has stopped an oil tanker moving in international waters near the Venezuelan coast. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, the tanker was carrying oil loaded from Venezuela that is subject to US sanctions. This incident occurred after US President Donald Trump declared a full blockade on oil-carrying ships sanctioned to Venezuela.
Representatives of the White House emphasized that the stopped tanker was operating under a false flag and belonged to Venezuela's illegal "shadow fleet." US officials stated that such ships are involved in illegally financing the Venezuelan government and that strict measures related to them will continue.
The Venezuelan government sharply condemned this action, describing it as a violation of international law and maritime piracy. Caracas officials announced that they will report the incident to the United Nations and other international organizations.
Following this event, Venezuela's oil exports have significantly decreased. Many tankers remain in the country's waters with their cargo, fearing the possibility of being seized.
Experts believe that if this situation continues, there is a high likelihood of an increase in oil prices on the global market.
