Commemoration events were held for the victims of the armed attack that took place in the Bondi Beach area of Sydney, Australia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A week ago, during the Jewish Hanukkah holiday, this attack resulted in the deaths of 15 people and dozens were injured. For this reason, a day of remembrance was declared in the country.
On Sunday, flags were flown at half-mast on government buildings, and a one-minute silence was observed at the time the attack began. The public was advised to light candles to honor the victims.
The memorial ceremony held at Bondi Beach was conducted under enhanced police supervision. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ordered a review of the activities of the country's law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
According to him, state institutions must be fully prepared to ensure security. The results of this investigation are expected to be announced in the coming months.
Officials are investigating the attack as a terrorist act against Jews. Following the incident, security measures were strengthened across the country, and the fight against hate-based crimes was intensified.
The government reiterated once again that there is no place for violence and extremism in Australia.
