As of Christmas night, three people died. The rains brought up to 27 centimeters of precipitation in Los Angeles and southern areas.
Following this, evacuations began and several roads were closed. Emergency services managed to rescue several people, including those trapped in vehicles.
Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles and other counties. Currently, about 100,000 people are without electricity.
Among the deceased are a 64-year-old man injured by a falling tree in San Diego, a 74-year-old man trapped underwater in a vehicle in Redding, and a 70-year-old woman who died due to sea waves in Mendocino County. Evacuation warnings were issued in San Bernardino County, and flash flood warnings were announced around the San Francisco Bay area.
The mayor of Los Angeles called on residents to be cautious on the roads and advised taking the rain hazard seriously.
