The Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that they struck the Novoshahtinsk oil refinery located in the Rostov region using Storm Shadow cruise missiles. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On December 25, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced this on their official Telegram channel. According to the official information, the strike hit the target precisely.
The statement noted that as a result of the attack, explosions occurred at the plant and the facility suffered serious damage. This plant is an important infrastructure producing diesel fuel and aviation kerosene for the needs of the Russian army.
The governor of the Rostov region, Yuriy Slyusar, also confirmed the strikes. According to his information, the explosions caused a fire, and one firefighter was injured while extinguishing it.
The extent of the damage to the plant has not yet been accurately assessed. Ukrainian sources released video footage showing columns of black smoke rising at the scene.
According to the information, since the start of large-scale military operations, Ukraine has struck this plant at least six times. However, the use of Storm Shadow missiles in this attack is of particular significance.
The Novoshahtinsk plant is located approximately 175 kilometers from Ukrainian-controlled territory. At the same time, the flight range of Storm Shadow missiles exceeds 250 kilometers, providing Ukraine with the capability to target infrastructure facilities deep behind Russian lines.
This attack is important not only militarily but also from a logistical perspective. Such strikes targeting fuel supply and energy facilities serve to increase pressure behind the front lines.
