Kyrgyzstan President Sadir Japarov responded to the complaints regarding the conditions in investigative prisons. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He cited his personal experience as an example and emphasized that prison conditions are "not a resort." This was reported by the Tengrinews.kz publication.
The head of state recalled that during his political career he had been in investigative prison twice. He stated that he spent a total of four and a half years in detention, the first time for nine months and the second time for three and a half years.
Japarov emphasized that during this period he lived with patience and never complained. According to the President, significant reforms have been carried out in Kyrgyzstan's penal system today.
Now prisoners are provided with three hot meals a day and are given special seasonal clothing. Additionally, inmates have the opportunity to engage in labor and can send the income they earn to their families.
It should be recalled that the main criminal case against Sadir Japarov was initiated in 2013 due to the Issyk-Kul events. He was released in 2020 following public protests and was elected President of Kyrgyzstan in 2021.
