Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared 2026 as the "Year of the Unity of the Peoples of Russia." This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This year is aimed at strengthening mutual respect, solidarity, and stability within the multinational society of the country. This initiative seeks to unite representatives of various nationalities and ethnic groups in Russia.
It is reported that the proposal to name the year as such was made to the president by Vitaliy Kuznetsov, a representative of the All-Russian Cossack Society. Vladimir Putin supported this idea, emphasizing that interethnic and interfaith relations in Russia have been developing positively in recent years.
According to him, more than 190 nationalities and ethnic groups live in Russia. Their diversity is considered the country's wealth and will remain one of the priority directions of state policy.
Additionally, the president proposed declaring 2027 as the "Year of Geography." During this year, important geographical anniversaries related to Russia's history and territorial development are planned to be celebrated.
These decisions are expected to serve the strengthening of national unity, and to enhance attention to historical heritage and shared values.
