Another round of talks took place between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The meeting held in Palm Beach on December 28 lasted over two and a half hours. It was the fourth meeting between the two leaders since the beginning of this year.
Although the negotiations started with high hopes, they ended without significant results. At the end of the meeting, when asked about when a peace agreement might be signed, Donald Trump did not give a clear answer.
He stated that the process depends on various scenarios, and in the best case, the agreement could be signed within a few weeks, but he did not rule out the possibility of delays or the process ending without results. Donald Trump described the war in Ukraine as the largest and bloodiest military conflict since World War II.
In his opinion, the international community must make swift and balanced decisions. Volodymyr Zelensky expressed an optimistic mood regarding the negotiations, emphasizing that agreement had been reached on 90 percent of a 20-point peace plan.
He also announced that security guarantees between the US and Ukraine had been fully coordinated. According to Donald Trump, European countries should play the main role in ensuring Ukraine's security.
At the same time, the US will continue to assist in this matter. Zelensky said that experts and working groups from both countries would meet again in the coming weeks to resolve contentious issues.
European leaders and the Ukrainian delegation are expected to visit Washington in January. The parties have not yet reached a full agreement on the status of the Donbass regions.
According to Trump, Ukraine and Russia have come somewhat closer on this issue, but the matter remains complex. Zelensky did not rule out the possibility of holding a referendum on some points of the peace plan proposed by Trump.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was also a central topic of the negotiations. According to Trump, he spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on this matter.
Putin stated that work is underway to operate the plant in coordination with Ukraine. Trump emphasized that the Russian side has not launched missile attacks in this regard.
Zelensky did not comment on this issue. Before the talks, the US and Ukrainian presidents held telephone conversations with European leaders.
Trump also spoke by phone with Putin before meeting Zelensky. According to Russian President’s aide Yuri Ushakov, this call was initiated by Trump and involved discussions on continuing peace negotiations.
Overall, the meeting at Mar-a-Lago served to clarify the path toward peace but did not yield decisive results. Negotiations continue, and the parties remain cautious.
Challenging and complex processes lie ahead.
