Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy may hold a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time in over 5 years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Fox News, citing a source familiar with the negotiations, the establishment of direct communication between the leaders of the two warring countries is considered a diplomatic achievement for the US president.
According to the Fox News source, this is based on the results of previous negotiations between Trump and Zelenskiy. It is known that the presidents of Russia and Ukraine last communicated in July 2020.
At that time, Kyiv conducted a special operation to transfer mercenaries linked to the "Wagner" private military company to Belarus. Since then, Zelenskiy has attempted several times to contact Putin by phone, but Putin rejected these proposals.
Additionally, Zelenskiy held a meeting with US President Donald Trump on December 28. During the meeting, Trump noted that agreements had been reached on 95 percent of the peace plan's provisions, but emphasized that the Donbass issue remains unresolved.
Trump also stated that Russia could assist in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
