New designs are being introduced on banknotes in Syria. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
From now on, images of former president Bashar Assad and his family will be removed from the banknotes. This was reported by the Syrian official news agency SANA.
It is reported that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa presented the new design banknotes. These banknotes will replace the old currency that will be withdrawn from circulation in December 2024.
Previously, the 2000 Syrian pound banknote featured a portrait of Bashar Assad, and the 1000 pound note had a portrait of his father Hafez Assad. The new banknotes are planned to be put into circulation from January 1, 2024.
They will include banknotes with denominations ranging from 10 pounds to 500 pounds. Now, instead of portraits of political figures, national symbols will be depicted on the new banknotes.
For example, Damascus roses, wheat ears, olives, oranges, and other national symbols will be featured. Officials emphasize that this change is being implemented to mark a new political era in the country and to strengthen national unity.
Through this, the aim is to create a symbol of renewal and national solidarity.
