Births increased in South Korea, population continues to decline

Despite the number of births in South Korea increasing for the second consecutive year, the country's population continues to decline. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The main reason cited is that the number of deaths remains significantly higher than the number of births. According to official data, last year, 258,242 babies were born in the country.
This figure is approximately 15,000 more compared to 2024, raising some hope against the backdrop of recent years' decline. However, at the same time, the number of deaths reached 366,149, which is an increase compared to the previous year.
As a result, the difference between births and deaths exceeded 107,000. This indicates that natural population decline has been ongoing for six years.
By region, the highest number of births was recorded in Gyeonggi Province, where more than 77,000 children were born. Seoul and Incheon cities follow in the next positions.
Among cities, Hwaseong remains the leader in the number of births. Demographic analysis shows that the largest segment of the population consists of people around 50 years old.
Next are those aged 60 and above, as well as middle-aged individuals. The number of children and young people is decreasing year by year.
According to experts, despite the increase in births, the aging population and the decreasing share of the younger generation may lead to long-term social and economic problems for South Korea. Therefore, the government needs to strengthen measures aimed at mitigating the demographic crisis.
