The Kremlin continues to remain silent on Venezuela

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet taken a clear position on the Venezuela issue. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to The Moscow Times, at the ceremony where foreign ambassadors presented their credentials to the Kremlin after the New Year holidays, Putin did not speak about Venezuela. He only mentioned Venezuela as Russia’s “friend” and “reliable partner.”
Furthermore, Putin did not address the issue of the detention of Russian tankers used for transporting Venezuelan oil. The Kremlin’s silence on this matter has raised various questions among observers.
On January 15, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov also did not mention this issue during his first briefing. This situation strengthens assumptions that it may be part of the Kremlin’s planned strategy.
In his address to the ambassadors, Putin emphasized the worsening international situation and noted that dialogue between countries is turning into a monologue. However, it is notable that no such sharp statements were made regarding Venezuela.
The US is said to have conducted an operation against Maduro. At the same time, a Bloomberg source stresses that for the Kremlin, relations with Washington are currently more important than the Venezuela issue.
According to the source, the Kremlin does not perceive the collapse of the regime in Venezuela as a major disaster. The Iran issue, however, is viewed as much more serious.
Trump’s threat to take harsh measures against the Iranian government is significant for Russia, and Moscow is exercising caution in this regard. Iran is one of Russia’s major military partners, and since the beginning of the Ukraine war, Moscow has supplied billions of dollars worth of weapons to this country.
According to German political scientist Felix Riefer, Russia has probably retreated on the Venezuela issue. He assesses Russia’s influence on the international stage as weakened and notes a decline in trust towards the Kremlin.
In conclusion, the Kremlin’s silence on Venezuela is not a simple lack of comment but is based on strategic calculation. Russia considers relations with Washington a priority in this matter.
However, this approach may also have long-term negative consequences.
