Avalanche in the Salzburg mountains: 5 dead, injuries

Two consecutive avalanches occurred in the mountains of Salzburg province, located in the western part of Austria. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
As a result of these incidents, five skiers died, and several people were rescued. The events took place in the Pongau area, south of Salzburg city.
The first avalanche happened on January 17 near Bad Hofgastein, at an altitude of approximately 2200 meters. A female skier trapped under the snow was rescued by rescuers but later died.
Her spouse survived. About an hour and a half later, a second avalanche occurred in the Gastein valley area.
Here, seven skiers were trapped under the snow. Four skiers died at the scene, two were injured (one in serious condition), and one person escaped without injuries.
For the rescue operation at the disaster site, four helicopters, mountain rescue services, the Red Cross's special dog unit, and crisis response specialists were involved. The search and rescue operation lasted several hours.
This incident served as a warning lesson for the local population and those engaged in skiing sports.
