Bulgaria President Rumen Radev announced his resignation

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has openly announced his intention to resign. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
On January 19, he addressed the nation, calling this his final address as president. The president announced that he will officially submit his resignation on January 20.
According to current legislation, the president's resignation must be reviewed by the Constitutional Court. Radev will continue his duties until the court issues a decision.
If the resignation is accepted, the presidential duties will be transferred to Vice President Iliyana Yotova. In his address, Radev expressed confidence in Iliyana Yotova, recognizing her as a person who will duly fulfill the presidential duties.
He also called on society to feel responsible for the country's future and to unite. Rumen Radev has held the position of Bulgarian president since 2017.
His decision to resign emerged against the backdrop of political protests that have been ongoing in the country for several months. These protests were triggered by videos circulated on social media.
The videos showed ruling coalition deputies hastily passing important laws and a lack of transparency in budget matters. Earlier, on December 11, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov also resigned.
Local media speculate that behind Radev's resignation are plans to form a political party and to participate in the anticipated early parliamentary elections. If Radev's resignation is approved, Vice President Yotova will temporarily assume the presidential duties.
At the same time, the country is entering a new phase amid political protests and possible elections.
